Minnesota Public Radio premieres my newest carol: Little Fir Tree

Here's the newest Burt Family Carol! As many of you know, my mom's family has a long tradition of sending an original carol as a Christmas card. This year I adapted a poem by J.P. Peabody and set it against a descending bassline to create "Little Fir Tree," a contemporary carol of endurance. I am delighted to be commissioned by The Rose Ensemble for a new work honoring St. Scholastica, the 6th century Italian nun who founded the women's branch of Benedictine Monasticism (Benedict was her brother). Get a sneak peak of the dress rehearsal and here's a ticket link.

Here's the newest Burt Family Carol! As many of you know, my mom's family has a long tradition of sending an original carol as a Christmas card. This year I found a lovely prose poem by 19th c. conservationist WHH Murray, and set it as a partner song & double canon with the grace "For Health and Strength and Daily Bread."
